Juan-Carlos (JC) Planas
Juan-Carlos (J.C.) Planas, an associate
in the Firm, focuses his practice on automobile
dealership law, litigation and zoning
and land use. Admitted to the practice
of law in 1998, he worked as an Assistant
State Attorney for three years where he
gained experience as a litigator. For
the past several years he has represented
his family’s automotive business.
In 2002, he was elected to The Florida
State House of Representatives representing
District 115 encompassing the Miami-Dade
County communities of Fountainbleu, Westchester
and East Kendall as well as the cities
of Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay. In the
legislature, as the Vice-Chairman of the
Judiciary Committee, J.C. authored several
new laws in the civil and criminal justice
areas, including legislation which strengthened
Florida laws against drunk driving and
better protected the rights of pregnant
women. He has both prosecuted and defended
children in the Juvenile Justice System
giving him a unique perspective into some
of the problems with our youth. During
the 2005 legislative session, J.C. put
this experience to use by sponsoring and
overseeing passage of the Family Court
Efficiency Act which allows better tracking
of family court cases and is a precursor
to the unified family court model created
by the Florida Supreme Court.
Being a legislator gives Mr. Planas a
unique and invaluable perspective into
the day to day operations of government.
J.C. is a graduate of Florida State University
with a major in Political Science. He
earned his J.D. at St. Thomas University
School of Law He is a member of the Kiwanis
Club of Little Havana and the Miami Dade
County Children’s Trust.
